It’s only been six weeks since we were blessed with our beautiful baby girl, Shayne, yet somehow our lives have been turned upside down and will never be the same! I could not have imagined how different things would become for our little family, but I am thankful with every breathe in my body for the changes we have been experiencing. While this adjustment has by no means been easy, it has been worth every sleepless night and every long day. She has made our lives more complete than I ever thought possible.
To my surprise, Kolton is so in love with his baby sister. He just wants to hold her and give her kisses all day long! It is so adorable and makes my heart melt, but at the same time, he doesn’t quite understand why he can’t play with her yet. He is having a little bit of a hard time with boundaries and personal space, with her still being so tiny.
We have been making it a point to keep him as included as we can with everything we do with the baby, as well as by giving him special attention when possible. While I feel as though my world has been transformed, I can not even imagine how this must be for him. Any transition is tough for a 2 1/2 year old, especially one that involves bringing another human into his tiny world. We have been trying really hard to be patient with him when he is obviously acting out for attention, but also trying to enforce rules and boundaries.
Kolton is such an amazing and special little boy, and even though he is going to have to share a lot of his attention with his baby sister, I know he is going to adjust just fine. In the meantime, we just have to continue to remind him how loved he is!
