I have to be honest with all of you… I don’t really like to cook, probably because I’m not very good at it. Cooking is the last thing feel like doing after work and all the everyday kid stuff. Eating is one of those things you just can’t get away with not doing and I do love to eat. Using Green Chef has helped changed my negative view on cooking, making it more exciting with new recipes I would never think to make on my own. I’m not the type to pull out a recipe book and make something new and it’s near impossible to get me to the grocery store with my girls.
I usually make my husband go to the store on his way home from work so I don’t have to do it with our two toddlers who always seem to: A. Have a meltdown B. Knock over a display -or- C. Pull on me from the shopping cart helping my purse knock into the shelfs causing me to break 5 jars of pickles.
Yeah, because of that one right there.
It’s all happened, I’m not making this stuff up. It’s definitely not fair to my husband since he wakes up at 4:30am to drive over an hour and a half to work in traffic and then back again in rush hour which sometimes takes him 2 more hours to get home, at least its not walking barefoot 10 miles in the snow.. but it’s close! Selfishly it is much easier for me. Sorry babe!
My 4 year old (who lives in dress up clothes these days) and I are allergic to gluten, making meal time a little bit tricky at times, luckily Green Chef has gluten free menu options. For my family the best part about Green Chef is that they do the shopping for you, saving my husband from a nightly stop at the grocery store and all the label reading that has to happen while shopping. (yay!!)
I got excited about cooking for the first time in a long time when we received 3 meals from Green Chef with all the ingredients color coded by recipe. We made a fun game out of the color codes with Piper, asking her to find all the purple, blue or red labels for the nights dinner.Maybe something new is all I needed to get into it. Despite my poor cooking skills each dinner turned out great, not over cooked or burnt, the easy to read step by step instructions must have been the key. I had fun turning the music up and dancing in the kitchen while making something other then meat loaf or spaghetti for once. Kenzie even joined in and helped place potatoes on the baking sheet and little things like that, maybe she will follow in my grandma’s footsteps and be an amazing chef one day.
Maybe its a state of mind you have to be in to enjoy making a meal. Trying something new proved to be a positive experience for our family.
Green Chef helped my life to be a little easier this week cutting out a trip (or 3) to the grocery store and planning out our dinners. The dishes were a different story. Unfortunately cooking always comes with dishes… and making most of these recipes called for quite a few of them. In our house whoever cooks is off the hook for clean up but with all the dishes from these recipes we made clean up a joint effort. If they come up with one pot recipes they’d have me for life!
